Science

In Science we are learning about the pros and cons of mining rocks and minerals. We are blogging about science because in science you can learn to find new things about rocks and minerals. In our unit on rocks and minerals we learned about how hard rocks are, how smooth they are, like obsidian.

There are three types of rocks: sedimentary, igneous and metamorphic rocks. Sedimentary rocks are formed from sediments that get crushed together to make a sedimentary rock. Igneous rocks are formed by magma and lava cooling and hardening, then it makes a igneous rock. Metamorphic rocks are formed by heat and pressure. Pressure crushes sedimentary rocks with igneous rocks and then heat puts the igneous and sedimentary rocks together to  make a metamorphic rock.

The rock cycle is how igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks are formed. Mining has pros (good things) and cons (bad things). Mining causes air and water pollution. Sludge is caused by mining too, sludge is a type of toxic and is dangerous.

  1. Hi my name is Lily and I am Anna’s sister i love everything in this blog, its so cool I learned so much today you guys are awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. In rocks and minerals we learned many things about it. We learned that Rocks are made out of minerals and minerals are made from nature. There are 3 types of rocks. Metemorphic, Sedimentary, and igneous rocks. A Metemorphic rock is made from igneous and sedimentary rocks. A sedimentary rock is made from sediment. A igneous rock is made from lava or magma. A example of a sedimentary rock is limestone. A example of a Metemorphic rock is slate. A igneous rock example is obsidian. A example of a mineral is diamond and Quartz. This is what I learned in rocks and minerals.
